Choices for a Warm and Hungry Planet
The 25th annual world Food Day teleconference brought together a distinguished panel of experts chaired by PBS Leher News Hour journalist Ray Suarez. On October 16, 2008 the panel discussed causes and possible solutions to a crisis engulfing poor people around the world. The world's "bottom billion" are now even more squeezed by higher food prices and the ever-increasing effects of climate change.
The panel included:
- Dr. Nancy Birdsall, president of the Center for Global Development
- Dr. Siwa Msangi, of the International Food Policy Research Institute
- Mr. Mark Ritchie, Secretary of State for Minnesota, and former president of the Institute for Agriculture Trade Policy
In the second half of this program the panel answers questions posed by teleconference viewers throughout North America, including Québec.
